Description

This qualification is aimed at those delivering pre-school swimming lessons utilising the Swim England Pre-school Framework. It is recognised level 2 vocational qualification on the RQF.

The qualification is designed to provide the learner with the level of knowledge and skills needed to effectively plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of pre-school swimming lessons in a safe, ethical and effective manner in a foundation stage environment.

Role

Once qualified the holder of the Level 2 Teaching Pre-School Swimming qualification is able to plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of sessions suitable for babies and toddlers age 0-5 years.

Syllabus
This qualification is made up of 18 learning outcomes and 34 assessment criteria.

On achievement of the qualification the learner will:

 1. Understand the legal requirements and industry standards for teaching Pre-school swimming lessons
 2. Know the responsibilities of a Pre-school Swimming Teacher
 3. Understand the role of the Pre-school Swimming Teacher in promoting aquatics
 4. Know about the development of pre-school swimming lesson participants and the impact of this on swimming ability
 5. Understand the different types of participants in pre-school swimming lesson and the impact this has on delivery
 6. Understand about the types of equipment used in a pre-school swimming lesson
 7. Know about common health related considerations in Pre-school swimming lessons
 8. Know about supports and holds used in pre-school swimming lessons
 9. Know about the core aquatic skills needed in pre-school swimming lessons
 10. Be able to plan pre-school swimming teaching
 11. Be able to teach pre-school swimming lessons
 12. Be able to demonstrate lesson management skills
 13. Be able to demonstrate communication skills when teaching pre-school swimming lessons
 14. Be able to use a variety of appropriate teaching methods
 15. Be able to demonstrate motivational techniques
 16. Be able to assess a pre-school swimming lesson participants swimming ability
 17. Be able to evaluate own performance
 18. Be able to plan for professional development

Pre-requisites

  Candidates must be at least 16 years of age on the first day of the course.
  Hold either:
   o ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher or equivalent taken since 2007

Note - Holders of the ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher (or equivalent) qualification will not be assessed on certain content as they have already been assessed through holding the pre-requisite qualification.

Assessment

  All work will be assessed by the tutor/assessor
  All learning outcomes must be achieved
  All assessment criteria must be achieved
  All evidence produced by the learner must be their own work
  The assessment is made up of a series of components:
   o Theoretical questions
   o Lesson plans
   o Lesson overview
   o Observation record
   o Evaluation
   o Action plan

Certification

Once the learner has completed the course and all the assessment criteria Survive and Save Training can forward your results to the ASA Awarding Body for certification. Certificates can expect to be received around 4 weeks following the end of the course.

On completion the learner will be award the ASA Level 2 Teaching Pre-School Swimming (RQF) qualification.

What next?

Following successful completion of the ASA Level 2 Teaching Pre-School Swimming you will be eligible to work as a swimming teacher delivering pre-school swimming lessons in either paid employment or volunteer role.
