Description

This qualification is aimed at those working with swimmers in a learn to swim environment utilising the ASA Learn to Swim Pathway (or equivalent). It is recognised as a Level 2 vocational qualification.

The ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification is designed to be a practical qualification which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a swimming teacher. It is designed to build on the knowledge, skills and abilities achieved through the ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification. Once achieved it will ensure that swimming teachers can effectively and independently plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of teaching sessions.

Once qualified the holder of the Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification is able to work independently to plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series teaching sessions with or without a swimming assistant teacher.

Pre-requisites

  Candidates must be at least 16 years of age on the first day of the course.
  Hold any of the following:
   o ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching)
   o ASA Level 1 Award for Teaching Aquatics (QCF)
   o An equivalent ASA qualification certificated after 1994

A copy of your pre-requisite qualification must be emailed to Survive and Save Training at the time of booking. If you hold a qualification that is not on this list please contact us for clarification before booking.

Where it is subsequently found that you do not meet the pre-requisites of this course we will be unable to refund any fees that have been paid.

Syllabus
This qualification is made up of 16 learning outcomes and 28 assessment criteria.

On achievement of the qualification the learner will:

 1. Understand the legal requirements of teaching swimming
 2. Know the responsibilities of a Swimming Teacher
 3. Know the role of the Swimming Teacher in promoting aquatics
 4. Understand the scientific principles in swimming
 5. Know the skills and strokes needed in swimming
 6. Be able to plan for swimming teaching
 7. Be able to teach swimming lessons
 8. Be able to demonstrate session management skills
 9. Be able to demonstrate communication skills within the swimming teaching environment
 10. Be able to use a variety of appropriate teaching methods to meet participant needs
 11. Be able to develop participants core aquatic skills and swimming strokes
 12. Be able to demonstrate motivational techniques
 13. Understand participant assessment
 14. Be able to assess participants
 15. Be able to evaluate own performance
 16. Be able to plan for professional development

Assessment

  All units are assessed by the tutor/assessor
  All learning outcomes must be achieved
  All assessment criteria must be achieved
  All evidence produced by the learner must be their own work
  The assessment is made up of a series of components:
   o Theoretical questions
   o Lesson plans
   o Lesson overview
   o Observation record
   o Evaluation
   o Action plan

Certification

Once the learner has completed the course and successfully passed all the assessment criteria Survive and Save Training will forward your results to the ASA Awarding Body for certification. The learner will be awarded the ASA Level 2 Swimmer Teacher qualification

What next?

Following successful completion of the ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher you will be eligible to work as a swimming teacher in either paid employment or volunteer role.
